Texas Teacher Certification (TExES)

UTSA is a test site for both the Practice TExES and state certification TExES exams. Registration for the state-wide TExES is at:  https://www.tx.nesinc.com/

Practice TExES:

The Practice TExES is the prerequisite exam required by most institutions prior to attempting the state certification TExES.

Practice TExES Registration:

  1. Students must be registered with our Teacher Certification office for the exam(s) they want to take.  If you are not on file with the Teacher Certification office, please contact them directly at:  (210) 458-5849
  2. UTSA students register for this exam online through their ASAP student account.
    • If you have registered on ASAP for a Practice exam but cannot view your scheduled date/time, follow these steps:
      • Login to ASAP → Student Services tab → Testing Services Office (test registration) link → Continue → Continue → View History
      • If your registration was successful, you may view it under the View History screen.
  3. If you are unable to view the Practice exam you are supposed to take, contact the Teacher Certification office to have it added to your account.

State Certification TExES:

The state certification TExES exams are offered weekly at both the Main and Downtown UTSA campuses.

TExES Registration

  1. Individuals wanting to register for the state certification TExES must be authorized to register by their institution.
    • If your exam is not listed, you must contact your institution to be approved and have it added to your registration online.
    • All information entered onto your account must be current and match your valid, government-issued identification presented on test day.

What to Expect on Test Day

When you come to take your exam, you must:

  1. Arrive at least 30 minutes prior to the start time printed on your admission ticket.
  2. Be ready to provide a valid (non-expired) government-issued ID with a photo and signature (ex. driver’s license, state ID card or passport)
    • The name on your ID and the name listed in ETS’s roster database MUST MATCH EXACTLY. For example, if your ID includes a hyphenated last name (e.g. Doe-Smith), this must also be reflected on your ETS registration.
    • If you have questions about your ID or name change, please contact ETS directly at:  1-800-205-2626
  3. Leave ALL electronic items in your vehicle or outside of the testing building.  Absolutely NO electronic items (cell phones, iPods/iPads, MP3 players, thumb drives, etc.) can be collected by the Testing Services staff.
    • If you arrive with electronics, you will not be signed in until you have deposited them outside of the testing building (example, return items to your vehicle).
    • Testing Services cannot provide space to store electronic items.  Testing Services assumes no responsibility for items left outside the building.
