Stamp 4-Skill Language Assessments

Testing Services is now offering Modern Language competency-based options through AVANT testing.

The AVANT 4S-STAMP is offered in the following languages for course credit:

• Arabic
• English
• French
• German
• Hindi
• Italian
• Japanese
• Korean
• Mandarin
• Polish
• Portuguese
• Russian
• Spanish
• Vietnamese
• Yoruba

*Note, upon approval from COLFA Modern Languages, select languages not listed may be delivered for credit in foreign language.

Students start by taking a UTSA placement exam in one of the selected languages and after receiving their placement score, students will be contacted by the Undergraduate Advisor of Record (UGAR) for the language confirming placement. After successful completion of the class, students can earn up to a maximum of 14 credit hours depending on the language of study if the competency-based exam score in that language is met. Course credit is conditional on the completion of the course into which the students placed with a grade of C- or higher.

Students placing into and completing a 2023 course will have satisfied the requirements of the COLFA Second Language experience.

If a student is eligible for credit in previous courses, the retroactive credit will appear on your transcript after the posting of the final grade. In most cases, this will occur sometime during the following term.

Retroactive credit for a course is only available if a student does not have equivalent AP, CLEP or IB exam credit for the course in question.
In the case of a retest the time between the first attempt and the second attempt must be 3 months or longer.

Cost and Registration

The cost of the AVANT 4S-STAMP is $120.00 paid for on UTSA Marketplace at https://secure.touchnet.net/C21612_ustores/web/index.jsp.

After payment has been made, students will go to: MYUTSA/Student Services then choose the Testing Services test registration option to choose a test date and time.

Note, students need to set aside 3 hours for testing and may complete testing in two sessions.
