    SAT Calculators

SAT allows examinees to bring a calculator. Please note that bluebook has an embedded calculator available for all testers; however, examinees may bring an acceptable calculator. Please see the list of acceptable calculators below.

The Desmos calculator embedded in the Bluebook testing app: Bluebook contains an embedded Desmos calculator with two options—graphing or scientific. Students can toggle between the two. It’s a powerful tool that includes features similar to handheld calculators. If you’re familiar with how to use these calculator options, the embedded version is a good choice.

Graphing calculators that do not include CAS features: This type of calculator includes plotting and graphing windows, data entry and storage windows, data analysis functions, trig functions, and programming options.

Scientific calculators: This type of calculator includes many functions helpful for solving problems in science, statistics, and math. Common features include built-in memory to store interim calculations, statistical functions, pi, trig functions, and scientific notation.

4-function basic calculators (not recommended): This type of calculator includes 4 functions: add, subtract, multiply, and divide; some also include percentages and square roots. This type of calculator is not recommended as they typically do not follow order of operations.

    SAT Testing Devices

SAT requires that examinees bring either a school managed or personal electronic device to successfully take the SAT. Examinees are responsible for making sure that the testing device of their choosing meets all of the necessary requirements. Please click on the link below to verify your device meets all requirements.

Please Note: “Personal or school issued chrome books are sometimes too old to connect to UTSA Wi-Fi license therefore it is highly recommended to bring a personal laptop that is updated. Our site does not have replacement laptops to hand out to examinees.”

UTSA accepts SAT scores for admission purposes as long as the exam was taken within five years of high school graduation. Prospective UTSA students that took the SAT five years or more after high school graduation must retest or request that other admissions criteria be applied.

UTSA requires that the writing portion of SAT be taken and submitted on the same test date as the other subject areas. The SAT was revised recently with new scoring standards. For more information on the SAT and how to register and review your scores, visit the CollegeBoard website.
